Getting to Know the Work/Family Program

Occasionally everyone has problems that become hard to handle alone. That’s why the UAW and GM offer a Work/Family Program (WFP). The WFP provides team members and their dependents free, confidential and professional assistance to help resolve problems that may affect them in their personal lives or on the job. To help you understand how the WFP can help you to be at your best, we have addressed some of the most commonly asked questions about the program.

Who can use the Work/Family Program?
The Work/Family Program is available to all UAW/GM team members and their eligible dependants. Eligibility begins when team members and their family members become qualified for the Health Care Plan they are enrolled in.

What are some of the typical concerns for which people turn to the Work/Family Program for help?
People use WFP for a wide range of issues, including:
Job or work stress
Parenting issues
Alcohol or drug dependencies
Burnout
Marital or relationship problems
Anxiety or depression
Anger management
Coping with change
Self-esteem issues
Grief or bereavement

Is the program really confidential?
All WFP records and services are treated with the strictest confidence. The personal information that you share with your WFP representative is confidential, unless you sign a release of information or if the law requires disclosure.

When should I contact the Work/Family Program?
You should call the WFP any time you need help working out a personal problem. The philosophy of these programs is that problems are most effectively handled before they become serious. The key is to get assistance as soon as a problem begins affecting your work or personal life.

How much does using the Work/Family Program cost?
Most costs of Work/Family Program referral resources are handled under the provisions of the UAW/GM employee benefits plans. You should obtain specific information about your coverage as it pertains to you and your family members from a UAW Benefit Representative.
